The Easter Story

The Easter Story

The Easter Story is one of the most important stories in Christianity. It’s about Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God, and his life, death, and resurrection.

Jesus

Jesus was born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. He grew up to become a teacher, and many people followed him because he performed miracles and preached about God’s love and forgiveness.

However, not everyone liked Jesus and his teachings. Some religious leaders were threatened by him, and they plotted to have him arrested and killed. They accused him of blasphemy, or speaking against God, and brought him before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate.

Crucifixion

Pilate didn’t find Jesus guilty, but he didn’t want to upset the Jewish leaders and the crowd, so he allowed Jesus to be sentenced to death by crucifixion. Crucifixion was a cruel and painful way to die, where a person was nailed to a wooden cross and left to hang until they died.

On the day of his crucifixion, Jesus was beaten, whipped, and made to carry his own cross to the place of execution, called Golgotha. There, he was nailed to the cross and left to die.

As he hung on the cross, Jesus prayed to God and forgave those who had hurt him. He also spoke to one of the criminals who was crucified with him, promising him that he would go to heaven.

After several hours, Jesus cried out, “It is finished!” and died. His body was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb, which was a cave-like structure carved into a rock. A large stone was rolled in front of the tomb to seal it.

Resurrection

Three days later, some women who had followed Jesus went to the tomb to anoint his body with spices, but they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Suddenly, two angels appeared and told them that Jesus had risen from the dead.

The women were overjoyed and ran to tell the disciples, who were hiding in fear. When the disciples saw Jesus, they were amazed and relieved that he was alive again. Jesus appeared to them several times over the next few weeks, showing them that he had truly risen from the dead.

The resurrection of Jesus is the most important part of the Easter Story. It shows that Jesus was more than just a teacher or prophet – he was the Son of God, who had power over death and sin. His resurrection is also a sign of hope for all believers, that they too can have eternal life with God.

Easter is celebrated by Christians around the world as a time of joy and renewal. It is a time to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, and his victory over death. It is also a time to reflect on our own lives, and to renew our commitment to God and to living as Jesus taught us.

So, that’s the Easter Story in a nutshell. It’s a story of love, sacrifice, and hope, and it continues to inspire and give meaning to millions of people around the world today.

  1. I like the way you present the Easter story to tutor your child. I intend to homeschool my children in the future and I really enjoyed your article about Easter, especially your FAQ. I really liked the fact that you were non-judgmental, underlining that some have no evidence of the resurrection of Jesus. But the belief is something that is strongly present in the historical archives.

    1. Hi Angel,

Thank you and yes, I just think that it is very important to acknowledge that no matter how strong our faith/beliefs, we might be wrong.

      All the best,

  2. Everytime I read the Easter Story, it’s like reading it for the first time.  It just captivates me.  Religion in general is very fascinating to me, but I really liked how you explained the story and told it.  You even gave descriptions as to what a tomb was etc.

    Thank you for sharing.

    1. HI Jenny – yes there is lots to ponder and wonder about in the story!  And I agree about religion being a fascinating subject – and I think it is particularly interesting to hear the thoughts of children and young people!
